This October, SKA participated in the JKA Malta Gasshaku held between Friday 11th and Sunday 13th October with visiting instructors from JKAE Sensei Ohta (7th Dan JKA) and Sensei Roy Tomlin (6th Dan JKA).
Sessions included kihon repetitions and analysis of proper technique, as well as practice of Heian katas and Higher Katas with emphasis on Empi, Jitte and Gankaku.
A beach training session was also included in the training programme on Saturday. Kumite practice was directed by Sensei Tomlin with focus on correct technique in Shobu Ippon and guidance on competition refereeing rules.
SKA black belts also had the privilege of participating in a friendly Shobu Ippon Competition at the end of the Gasshaku refereed by Sensei Tomlin and trainee referees from Lewisham Shotokan Karate Club, London.
