Over the past weeks SKA Black Belt, Sensei Kenneth Farrugia, travelled to West Sussex, UK, for training with highly esteemed instructors Sensei Paul Herbert and Sensei Jess Lavender, from yet another prestigious Shotokan Karate Association in UK – the ASK– Academy of Shotokan Karate.
Training at Kiryoku Dojo was led by Sensei Paul Herbert, 6th Dan ASK and 4th Dan JKA, who focussed on superb technical detail and real-life applications of Karate Technique. Sensei Paul Herbert is a prominent instructor in UK and also one of the Senior students of the late tremendous Japanese Instructor Sensei Enoeda Keinosuke, 9th Dan. During his tournament career, Sensei Paul Herbert also competed and won at several prestigious international championships, amongst which the JKA Europeans, JKA World Championships, JKA Shotokan Cups, and the highlight of his career winning the KUGB British Championship in 2003.
Brighton Shotokan Karate Club, also harboured a remarkable opportunity for our SKA member, Sensei Kenneth, to train with Instructor Sensei Jess Lavender, 7th Dan, who had taken over the Brighton Karate Club from the one-of-a-kind Sensei David Hazard. Sensei Lavender’s in-depth knowledge of Karate could be easily perceived during his instruction of Kata applied in realistic fighting situations. He was also a former member of KUGB and SEKU, and is currently a member of Sensei David Hazard’s ASK Technical Panel.
SKA would like to thank Sensei Paul Herbert, Sensei Jess Lavender and all members of their ASK dojos for their hospitality, friendship, and for giving our SKA member a remarkable opportunity to join them in training that reflected the true Shotokan Karate legacy left by the extraordinary and unforgettable, Sensei Enoeda.
We hope to meet again soon in training in the near future.
Oss!
